Senior Accountant, Payroll

Reports to:
Assistant Manager, Payroll
Purpose: The jobholder of this position leads as a key player in organizing and
optimizing the payroll function for all the AUC Part-Time (PT) non-academic
instructors, faculty and staff members. The position is directly responsible for
checking and validating different types of payments on the payroll and finance
system. In addition, he/she will be part of a team technical accounting
professional that performs several functions in order to pay salaries and
stipends on a timely and accuracy basis.
Responsibilities:
Dealing through emails and face to face communication by replying and answering
different inquiries from faculty and staff members regarding their salaries
Check and validate monthly payroll actions received from provost office/human
resource office
Revise efficiently various financial transactions received from different
departments at The American University in Cairo (AUC) in order to make sure that
all revenues, and expense charges allocated to the specified budget lines
Process reconciliation for various General Ledger (GL) accounts through
preparing journal entries, and accounting transactions that need corrections on
the SAP
Proactively implement ways to improve the financial process through analyzing
monthly financial transactions and identify key variances in order to flag
incorrect transactions to avoid it in next month
Check and validate monthly transactions, received from Office of Human Resources
(HR) and Office of the Provost before final payroll run
Check the accuracy of monthly transactions, promotions and adjustments done by
HR and/or provost office before final payroll run
Reconcile and check the monthly output of Staff Supplemental Pension Plan (SSSP)
pension Plans and prepare final payment
Revise teaching assistant process and prepare their stipends
Revise Fellowship agreements and prepare their stipends
Revise and update SAP with home leave, first arrival, final departure tickets
and shipping allowances for relocated employees in coordination with travel
department
Pay research assistant through finance
Pay the Center for Arabic Study Abroad’s (CASA) fellows through finance
Issue of overtime, AUC staff contributions, emergency fund reports
Enter local bank accounts for all AUC community
Pay Part time instructors for the four non-academic schools: School of
Continuing Education (SCE), Executive, Engineering and Science Services (ESS)
program, and Kamal Adham Center
Prepare annual school loan payments for AUC staff members
Revise monthly salaries and actions for all employees hired on a project
Revise monthly provost office additional payments
Upload and check utilities and housing payments on SAP
Prepare annual leave payment for staff who left AUC on finance
Enter monthly tickets and shipment for AUC relocated staff members
Prepare financial closing of state tax for US citizens
Assist in issuance and distribution of US Internal Revenue Service wage and tax
statement (IRS W2) forms to US employees
Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in commerce, accounting or equivalent
Experience:
7 - 10 years of relevant experience
