valU is hiring a Head Of Legal

Join the entrepreneurial leadership team who launched the first, and leading Buy-Now, Pay-Later (BNPL) Fintech platform in Egypt as valU’s Head of Legal to enjoy the best of two worlds; the speed and innovation of a market-making startup, and the capabilities and accelerated growth of Egypt’s leading BNPL lifestyle enabling platform.

valU Head of Legal Department
The valU Head of Legal Department will report to valU’s CEO and receive guidance and support from EFG Hermes Group’s General Counsel.
Job Overview
The valU Head of Legal Department will join the senior management team of valU at an exciting and challenging phase in valU’s journey of growth and development. He/she will have overall responsibility for all legal matters in this constantly growing business, as it expands in terms of geographical scope, product offering, investor base, partnerships, and investments.
Responsibilities and Duties
Drafting, reviewing, and updating contracts with merchants, service providers and other commercial partners
Drafting, reviewing, and updating customer contracts for different types of products and services
Overseeing the valU Litigation Team, and in conjunction with the Litigation Team Head implementing policies and procedures to handle claims and lawsuits through internal and external resources
Reviewing contracts in relation to different types of financing obtained by valU
Devising the strategy for protecting valU’s intellectual property rights and following-up on implementation through internal and external resources
Managing external legal advisors across various jurisdictions and legal fields
Providing legal input on new product offerings
Providing legal input on compliance and regulatory matters
Supporting various departments on their legal requirements, e.g. Marketing, Tech, and HR
Providing legal support and guidance on regional expansions as well as potential new partnerships, investments, joint ventures, and acquisitions
Coordinating with the EFG Governmental Affairs team on corporate actions and procedures
Managing internal legal matters, especially in relation to due diligence, as may be required in connection with transactions involving valU whether private or public (including the contemplated IPO)
Managing the legal needs of valU’s subsidiaries (currently Paynas)

Qualifications

Must be qualified in Egypt
Must be fluent in Arabic and English with strong drafting skills in both languages
Solid experience is required whether in-house or in private practice including recent senior roles entailing strategic overview and partnership with senior executive stakeholders
People management expertise is required
Specific expertise in commercial matters (especially in the retail field) is a must
Specific expertise in NBFI or banking is a plus
Specific expertise in litigation is a plus
Specific expertise in jurisdictions outside Egypt is a plus
